Fords Could Not Hold on in Loss to Bryn Mawr, 50-46

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford could not hold an 11 point lead and lost to Bryn Mawr, 50-46, in Centennial Conference action Tuesday night at Gooding Arena.
Brittany Lattisaw led the Fords with 22 points, nine blocks and eight rebounds. The nine blocks ties her for second most in a game (Jodie Sampson had nine against Ursinus in 1995). Erica Juliano added 14 points for Haverford.
Jessica Allen led the Owls with 20 points. Emilie Naccarato scored 11 and Shanika Bridges-King netted 10 points. Bryn Mawr had three players grab 13 rebounds each; Caroline Heffernan, Allen and Bridges-King.
Bryn Mawr (5-18, 2-14 CC) opened the game by scoring the first four points. Haverford (3-19, 0-16 CC) responded by scoring the next 12. The Owls started to chip their way back in and got the score to 15-10 Fords with 8:53 left in the first half. Neither team could score again until Bridges-King hit a lay-up at the 3:37 mark. Haverford took a 17-16 lead into half time.
Heffernan hit the first bucket of the second half to give Bryn Mawr a one point lead but Haverford went on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 29-18 lead. It looked like the Fords had a comfortable lead but the Owls chipped their way back into the game again and tied the score at 36-all with 9:54 to go. A three-pointer by Naccarato put Bryn Mawr in front for good. The Fords did not fall more then five points but could not take the lead. Lattisaw made a lay-up and a free throw with 38 second left to bring the Fords within two, but a basketball by Allen with 12 second left sealed the victory for Bryn Mawr.
Haverford ended its home schedule by honoring its five seniors Tuesday night; Leah Fiasca, Kendra Smythe, Liz Theibert Mai-Khoi Nguyen and Juliano. The Fords finish the 2008 season with two road games. They will travel to Ursinus next Wednesday and conclude the season at Swarthmore that Saturday.
