Indoor Track Puts Forth Quality Effort at McElligott Meet

2/2/08 - Both men's and women's teams combined for eight first-place finihes.
HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men’s and women’s indoor track teams hosted the McElligott Meet Saturday afternoon at the Fieldhouse. The women had five first-place finishes, while the men had three.
One of those top-finises for the women came in the 5,000 meter run as Emily Lett crossed the finish line at 18:50.41. Heidi Bretscher placed eighth at 19:28.41. The Fords had two of the top three finishes in the 55 meter hurdles. Eliza Reiss came in first, finishing in 8.76. Mara Miller came in third at 8.99.
In the mile run Annick Lamar placed second at 5:11.25. Zoe Welch (7.77) and Miller (7.81) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 55 meter dash.
One of Haverford’s best overall finishes came in the 400 meter dash as they placed four runners in the top-12. They were led by Aileen Keogh, who placed third; coming in at 1:01.54. The Fords other solid overall effort was in the 200 meter dash. Haverford took five of the top-10 spots; led by Christina Neilson who paced the pack at 27.23. Eliza Reiss (3rd, 27.45) and Welch (5th, 27.28) also finished in the top-five.
Darian Lunne (2:19.46) placed first in the 800 meter run for the Fords. Emma Lo rounded out the running events for the day coming in second in the 3,000 meter run at 11:01.21. Haverford also placed runners in the three-five spots.
Reiss had Haverford’s only first-place finish in the field events. She took the top-spot in the high jump; leaping 4-11. Jessica Belden came in second at 4-9. Belden also finished third in the long jump. She reached 15-3 ¼. Alex Mayhey came in fourth-place at 14-5 ¾. Melissa Nylander (9-6 ¼) placed second in the pole vault. In the shot put, Jackie Freund threw 36-7 ½, which was good for second.
The men’s most notable performance came in the mile as Ian Ramsey-North finished fourth; crossing the finish line in 4:16.13. Ramsey-North finished first among all Division III runners and his time was just off the NCAA Provisional Qualifying Standard of 4:16.00.
Carlos Coleman had two first-place finishes on Saturday. In the 55m dash he finished in 6.65 and in the 200m he came in at 23.00. For his efforts, Coleman received the Seamus McElligot Trophy as the top-performer.
Elias Tousley took Haverford’s other top-finish. In the 3,000m he crossed the line in 8:34.73. The Fords took the six-13 spots in the 3,000m. In the hurdles, Sam McCrimmons finished fourth at 9.19. Sunil Adige placed second in the 800m, coming in at 1:58.50.
Joe Awantang had Haverford’s best place in the field events. He threw 50-3 ½ in the shot put, coming in second overall and first among all Division III competitors. Elvis Rosado took fifth, throwing 42-0 ¾. Andrew Wei and Phil Kim tied for third in the pole vault; both reached 11-0 ¼.
Haverford will send a few runners to the Boston University Valentine Meet on Feb. 9. Both teams will be in competition two days later on Feb. 11 in a home quad meet starting at 4 p.m.
