Performance of commissoned works by faculty composers on December 9.
Faculty composers Ingrid Arauco and Curt Cacioppo will have commissioned works premiered on the prestigious Philadelphia Chamber Music Society concert series December 9. Ingrid’s piece Vistas for flute and piano will be performed by Philadelphia Orchestra principal flutist Jeffrey Khaner and world-renowned pianist Charles Abramovic. Abramovic will also play Curt’s solo piece Philadelphia Diary. Vistas was inspired by artists Kawase Hasui, Claude Monet and Josef Albers, and reflects a radiant warmth of heart while working with abstract materials. Philadelphia Diary describes five Philadelphia sites, including Strawbridge Observatory, in a march that was written for Prof. Emeritus Bruce Partridge on the occasion of his retirement from teaching at Haverford.
The concert takes place Thursday, December 9 at 7:30 in Presser Hall of the Settlement Music School, 416 Queen Street, Philadelphia. A panel discussion with the composers starts off the program. The performance and commissions were made possible through the collaborative support of the Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia, the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, and the Philadelphia Music Project. Tickets are $16.50. Learn more>
