Computational Chemist Joins Faculty
As a result of a national search conducted in the Fall of 2007, the Chemistry Department has added a new faculty member. Joshua Schrier earned his Ph.D. working with Prof. Birgitta Whaley at the University of California, Berkeley, and more recently has been a member of the research group of Dr. Lin-Wang Wang at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where Schrier has been a Luis W. Alvarez Postdoctoral Fellow. Schrier's research interests involve the theoretical study of nanometer-scale composite materials. These materials have potential applications in photovoltaic devices and quantum computing. Schrier will continue his theoretical studies of these systems and will be offering opportunities for Haverford College students to be involved with this research. Starting this fall (2008), Joshua will teach existing courses in Physical Chemistry and develop new courses in Computational Science.
