Haverford Turns Out Solid Effort at Gotham Cup

Donald Letts finished eighth in the 3,000 meter run Friday in the Gotham Cup.
Both men's and women's indoor track teams were in competition Friday in New York City.
NEW YORK – In its first meet of the new year, the Haverford College men’s and women’s indoor track teams competed at the Gotham Cup Friday afternoon. A number of Haverford runners set personal bests in the Big Apple.
On the women’s side Darian Lunne set a school record in the 1,000 meters at 3:02.60. She was second among Division III runners and 11th overall.
In the 3,000 meter run, Annick Lamar was the second collegiate finisher with a personal record of 10:18.17. Also setting career records were Emily Letts (4th, 10:58.60) and Heidi Bretscher (9th, 11:18.61). Another personal record was set by freshman Christina Nielson who ran the 400 meters in 63.25.
Sophomore Mara Miller set a personal record in the triple jump leaping 10.46 meters.
Fellow sophomore Jackie Freund threw a personal best of 11.61 meters in the shot put.
On the men’s side Haverford’s a number good performances. In the mile Elias Tousley (6th, 4:21.02) and Paul Bisceglio (7th, 4:21.23) paced the Fords with top-10 finishes in the mile. In 3,000 meters Ian Ramsey-North had Haverford’s best overall finish, taking fourth in the at 8:26.27. Donald Letts came in eighth, crossing the finish line at 8:37.26.
Joe Awantang and Grant Scibner were the Fords only field competitor. Awantang finished third overall in the shot put, throwing 15.24 meters. Scribner threw a personal best of 13.12 meters (43-01/2).
Haverford will be in action again next Friday at the Muhlenberg Invitational, which gets underway at 4 p.m.
