Awantang raises Haverford indoor shot put record at Pyrah Invitational

12/7/07 - Senior thrower provisionally qualifies for NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships in March.
Joe Awantang upped his Haverford indoor record with an NCAA provisional qualifying shot put of 52 feet-10.25 inches in Friday evening's meet honoring longtime Villanova head cross country and assistant track coach Jack Pyrah.
Awantang had set his previous record of 51-11 on February in winning the Centennial Conference indoor championship at Haverford.
Elvis Rosado (42-2.75) was sixth in the shot, one place behind Haverford alum/Swarthmore throws coach Tom Reynolds (44-3.25).
Carlos Coleman won the third-seeded heat to finish fourth overall in the 55 dash (6.68 seconds) and was also fifth in the 300 dash (36.24). Luke Henderson (2:05.58) was fourth in the 800 run, while Paul Bisceglio (4:24.43) and Dan O'Toole (personal-record 8:48.67) were respective fifth-place finishers in the Mile and 3,000 meters.
Other top Haverford finishers in their respective events were Sam McCrimons, who was sixth in his 55-meter hurdles debut (9.77 seconds) and Lucas Fuentes, who was sixth in the 1,000 run (2:37.35). Sunil Adige (1:08.38) was eighth in the 500 dash, while Andrew Wei (career-best 11 feet-6.25 inches) was 10th in the pole vault.
