Scribes/Readers (2 Positions Available)

Qualifications

Required – Good computer keyboarding and reading skills and the ability to interact directly with a wheelchair-using student with a complicated disability

Preferred – Applicants who have had prior experience working with individuals with special needs

Essential Functions

Two persons with a caring and patient disposition, and with good computer keyboarding and reading skills, are needed to assist a very bright, humorous, and gracious male student with significant motor coordination limitations, speech articulation difficulties, and some special reading comprehension peculiarities.  The positions require direct interaction with the student to take dictation and sometimes to read.

Job Parameters

Schedule - The student will need this assistance 3-4 hours/day, Mondays through Thursdays and on Saturdays.  Times will be determined by the student’s academic course schedule, but will be in a “block” period of time.  Evening times might be a possibility during the weekdays; Saturday will be daytime hours.  The two persons needed would work 2-3 days each (8 to 16 hours per week).  Persons with experience working with individuals with special needs are especially encouraged to apply.

Duration of Positions - 2009-10 academic year: August 31, 2009 to May 14, 2010, with the exception of November 25-28th and December 19-January 18th.  If the circumstances are favorable, both to the student and to the scribes/readers, the positions can be extended to include the three academic years that follow the 2009-10 year.

Salary: $14.57 per hour
