Leadership Weekend Oct. 3-4: The Challenge of Excellence
A call to all Haverford leaders, volunteers, and devotees to join us on campus for an exciting two days in early October. Highlights include a Friday evening motivational presentation by renowned professor and lecturer Cornel West; a fundraising presentation on peer data by Connie Cervilla of Core Group Inc.; the dedication and official naming of the Humanities Center at Haverford; a campaign update by national campaign consultant Bill McGoldrick of McGoldrick and Washburn; and a special Saturday evening featuring plans for the Gardner Integrated Athletic Center, with special guest speakers Arn Tellem ’76 of SFX Sports Group (USA) and Andy Dolich P’06, President of Business Operations for the Memphis Grizzlies. Leadership Weekend coincides with the first Board of Managers meeting for fiscal year 2004, providing rich opportunities for information-sharing, leadership development, and networking. Two new Board members will officially begin their terms during the weekend: Elizabeth Enloe and Elon Spar ’83.
Elizabeth Enloe is regional director of the American Friends Service Committee New York Metropolitan Regional Office, where she oversees programs in conflict resolution, criminal justice, and immigrant rights. She helped formulate AFSC’s response to the 9/11 tragedy. A member of the Corporation of Haverford College, Elizabeth majored in English at Swarthmore College and received a bachelor’s degree in 1973.
Elon Spar ’83, who majored in economics and political science at Haverford, went on to earn an MBA from Stanford in 1982. Elon has long been involved in fund-raising at Haverford, and is a member of the Campaign Executive Committee and the Committee of 100. He is managing director of listed trading for Credit Suisse First Boston, working out of Manhattan. Elon and his wife Anne live with their three children in Chappaqua, N.Y.
