Biology Major Mary Welsh '09 Awarded Haverford House Fellowship
Mary Welsh '09 will serve a one-year term and work four days per week with a non-profit organization in the Philadelphia area. Haverford House Fellows dedicate their fifth workday to projects that engage the College with Greater Philadelphians devoted to a more socially just, healthy and vibrant community.
Mary describes her placement and project as follows:
Placement: I will serve my fellowship with the Philadelphia GROW Project at the Drexel University School of Public Health. This project works with families of Philadelphia to promote child growth and nutrition and to prevent hunger.
Project: I would like to use my interest in health and nutrition to connect Haverford students with urban farming initiatives in Philadelphia. I'm also interested in reaching out to freshmen and connecting them to the city, its history and culture, and potential service projects.
