Volleyball Wins First Centennial Regular Season Title with 3-0 Win Over McDaniel

10/27/07 - Haverford claims the top-seed and will host the Centennial volleyball championship next weekend with 3-0 sweep of McDaniel.
WESTMINSTER, MD - Head coach Amy Bergin's volleyball team, ranked #15 in Division III, swept host McDaniel 3-0 (30-28, 30-21, 30-17) Saturday afternoon in a Centennial Conference volleyball match. Haverford (27-2 overall, 9-1 CC) clinched its first-ever Centennial regular season title with the win, and the right to host the CC playoffs next Saturday and Sunday.
Sophomores Rachel & Rebecca Salvo once again led Haverford to victory. Rachel Salvo contributed a team-high 18 kills with a .486 hitting percentage and 18 digs. Rebecca Salvo totaled 20 digs with 14 kills and a .345 hitting percentage.
Senior Emily Hinchcliff dished out 48 assists and had seven digs, while senior outside hitter Laura Nuyen had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs.
Freshman Kelsey Cantwell served up two service aces, while senior middle hitter K'Lynn Solt registered six kills and three blocks.
Joining top-seeded Haverford in next weekend's Centennial tournament will be 2nd-seeded Johns Hopkins (23-4, 9-1 CC), 3rd-seeded McDaniel (15-8, 8-2 CC), 4th-seeded Gettysburg (17-12, 7-3) and 5th-seeded Dickinson (11-15, 6-4).
Gettysburg will host Dickinson in the play-in game on Wednesday evening.
The Centennial volleyball tournament will begin next Saturday at a time to be determined.
