10/24/07 - Senior Emily Hinchcliff dished out 43 assists in Haverford's 3-0 shut out of Swarthmore Wednesday evening.
HAVERFORD, PA - Haverford senior setter Emily Hinchcliff dished out 43 assists to help lead the host Fords' past Swarthmore, 3-0 (30-17, 30-20, 30-21) Wednesday evening in a Centennial Conference volleyball match. The Fords, ranked 15th in Division III, improved to 26-2 overall and 8-1 in CC play. Swarthmore fell to 9-17 and 4-5 with the loss.
Haverford sophomore outside hitter Rebecca Salvo pounded down a match-high 13 kills with a .324 hitting percentage. Salvo also tallied a match-high 18 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Rachel Salvo added nine kills with 12 digs, while Hinchcliff totaled 11 digs with her 43 assists.
Senior outside hitter Laura Nuyen had nine kills and 15 digs, while freshmen Kelsey Cantwell and Franny Glick contributed eight and five digs, respectively.
Swarthmore was led by Jen Wang and Vanessa Wells, who each totaled eight kills.
Haverford's 8-1 record in Centennial play moves them into a tie for first place. McDaniel, who entered the night 8-0, was upended by Johns Hopkins. McDaniel and Johns Hopkins both own an 8-1 CC record entering Saturday's matches.
The Fords will travel to McDaniel on Saturday in a Centennial showdown. If Haverford wins, they will claim the CC regular season championship and will host the CC postseason tournament next weekend. Haverford owns the first place tie-breaker over Johns Hopkins after disposing the Blue Jays 3-0 back on September 29.
