
Tia DeNora to visit Haverford in January 2009
Prof. DeNora did her undergraduate studies in music and sociology, and received her PhD in 1989 from the University of California, San Diego. In her research, she investigates music's uses and powers in social life. She is the author of "After Adorno: Rethinking Music Sociology" (Cambridge 2003), "Music in Everyday Life" (Cambridge 2000), and "Beethoven and the Social Construction of Genius" (University of California Press 1995.)
She will be giving a talk entitled "Musical Spaces and Social Stances: Community Music Therapy and the Case of Mental Health" on Monday, Jan. 26 at 4:30pm in Chase Auditorium. Everyone is welcome. Tea and cookies at 4:15pm.
