10/13/07 - Diplomats hand Haverford first loss of 2007 season, putting an end to the Fords 24-match winning streak.
LANCASTER, PA - Host Franklin & Marshall upset #11 Haverford, 3-1 (20-30, 30-27, 30-25, 30-24) Saturday afternoon in a Centennial Conference volleyball match. The loss snapped Haverford's program-record 24 match winning streak to start the season. The Fords are now 24-1 overall and 6-1 in Centennial play. Franklin & Marshall improved to 16-9 and 4-3, respectively, with the win.
The Fords were led by sophomore middle hitter Rachel Salvo's 20 kills, .341 hitting percentage and 18 digs. Sophomore outside hitter contributed a season-high 30 digs with 12 kills and a .300 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Laura Nuyen had 12 kills and 16 digs while senior Dana Mullenhard added ten kills.
The win is the second straight for F&M over Haverford in the regular season, as the Diplomats downed the Fords by a 3-1 score in 2006. However, Haverford bested F&M, 3-0, in the Centennial Championship match in 2006. The Diplomats hold a 14-3 series lead over the Fords since the Centennial was formed in 1993.
The loss puts Haverford in a tie for second place in the Centennial with Johns Hopkins, who also owns a 6-1 CC mark. McDaniel is 6-0 in the conference and currently sits on top of the standings. Haverford will travel to McDaniel on October 27th in both teams final match of the regular season.
Haverford will travel to top-ranked Juniata on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference battle.
