The Department of Sociology presents Richard Swedberg (Cornell University)

Richard Swedberg, Professor of Sociology, Cornell University
On Sept. 22, Professor Swedberg will give a public lecture entitled "Tocqueville and the Problem of Analyzing the Economy." On Sept. 23, he will discuss two papers at a work-in-progress seminar: “Capitalist Entrepreneurship: Making Profit through the Unmaking of Economic Orders" and "Schumpeter's Full Model of Entrepreneurship: Economic, Non-Economic and Social Entrepreneurship."
Professor Swedberg is one of our most important economic sociologists. In addition to his more substantive work, he has been active in excavating the history and the theoretical foundation of the subdiscipline. He is the author of “Principles of Economic Sociology”, “Max Weber and the Idea of Economic Sociology”, “Joseph A. Schumpeter: His Life and Work”, “Economics and Sociology: Redefining Their Boundaries” and several other works. He is the editor (with Victor Nee) of “On Capitalism and The Economic Sociology of Capitalism”, and, with Neil Smelser, of “The Handbook of Economic Sociology.”
