Horticulturist Carol Wagner honored
Only the trees know more
Horticulturist Carol Wagner, a graduate of the Professional Gardener (PG) program at Longwood Gardens, has been honored by her peers with the Lois Woodward Paul Award. This honor, decided by a vote of members of the PG Alumni Association, is bestowed upon a graduate who has made outstanding horticultural achievements in the profession.
Since the PG program began at Longwood in 1970, there have been 261 graduates; 85 percent are working in the field of horticulture. Carol reported for work at Haverford College on a Monday morning in February 1988. Two days before, she was graduated from the Professional Gardener (PG) Program at Longwood Gardens. She hardly had time to change out of high heels, cap and gown and put on work boots.
Over the years, Carol has served the alumni association as secretary, vice president, president and editor of its newsletter. She began her studies at Longwood after earning a bachelor’s degree in geology from Temple University. For over 25 years she has dedicated herself to serving the college community on many levels. When it comes to the institutional memory of the Haverford College Arboretum, only the trees know more.
