Tri-Center Environmental Studies Forum at Haverford College
Thursday, February 12, 2009
Sponsored jointly by the College's three research-and-teaching centers—the Hurford Humanities Center; the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship; and the Koshland Integrated Natural Sciences Center—and occasioned by the College's receipt of support from the Mellon Foundation for establishing three new Environmental Studies positions in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, and Anthropology, this event will bring together prominent experts in each of three domains—science; policy; cultural studies—to discuss the contribution each sphere of knowledge can best make to an integrated program in Environmental Studies at Haverford.
Thursday evening features a public conversation with the guests on their research, moderated by Robert Fairman, Associate Professor and Chair of Biology & Director, Koshland Integrated Natural Sciences Center. On Friday, Haverford and Bryn Mawr faculty and administrators will participate in a day-long seminar discussing a broad range of questions about the history, nature, and (especially) future of environmental studies considered as an interdisciplinary venture.
