Do Not Violate Copyright Law
From http://www.eff.org/wp/how-not-get-sued-file-sharing
"As of July 2006, the Recording Industry Association of America
(RIAA) has sued over 20,000 music fans for file sharing in just
under three years. In 2004, the Motion Picture Association of
America (MPAA) joined this misguided, anti-consumer crusade. Filing
lawsuits against anonymous "Doe" defendants, the RIAA and MPAA seek
to uncover the identities of P2P users and force them to pay
thousands of dollars in settlements."
You could be at risk of being sued by the RIAA if you are sharing music or other copyrighted materials on your computer -- even if you purchased the materials legally.
Many P2P applications run in the background -- even after you quit the program or restart your computer. Most students who get caught breaking copyright law at Haverford didn't even know they were doing it.
Protect yourself. Don't use P2P software or if you do, make sure you shut it down, disable file sharing, or aren't serving any copyrighted material.
