The Meyermedia label has just released The Realm of Possibility, spotlighting pianist and Ruth Marshall Magill Professor Curt Cacioppo as its sole performing artist. Award-winning composer Mark Hagerty scored the music, dedicating the 36-minute title piece to Cacioppo.

Simon Linn-Gerstein [HC ’09,] received the Creativity Foundation's 2012 Legacy Medal on April 21 for his exceptional creative promise as a cellist and composer. He was one of seven winners who received their awards from director/ choreographer Mark Morris at a ceremony at the Cosmos Club in Washington, D.C. A resident of Salem, Mass., Simon is completing his master's degree in cello performance at the Longy School of Music of Bard College, where he studies with Terry King.

Ruth Marshall Magill Professor of Music Curt Cacioppo’s "Vermillion Vespers" may be heard on WRTI-FM 90.1 this Sunday, May 27, at 3 PM. Performed by Philadelphia’s virtuoso choir THE CROSSING with conductor Donald Nally (newly appointed Director of Choral Organizations at Northwestern University) and organist Ken Lovett, the “Encore!” broadcast is a reprise of the concert that took place last weekend at the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill.

Ruth Marshall Magill Professor of Music Curt Cacioppo will spend April of his sabbatical leave this semester at the American Academy in Rome as a Visiting Artist. His principal activity there will be the composition of a new quintet for piano and strings for the Quartetto di Venezia and himself, to be premiered during the ensemble's 30th anniversary year in 2013.

Curt Cacioppo's new cd "ITALIA" receives rave review in "Listen: Life with Classical Music"

Professor of Music Richard Freedman has developed a website that provides access to music books published in the 1500s by Parisian printer Nicolas Du Chemin. The site, which is now live, was created with funds from a National Endowment for the Humanities "Digital Humanities" grant.

“ITALIA” is the title of Curt Cacioppo’s latest release. This is the
composer’s 10th disc, and features exclusively music that he has written
either in Italy or in response to Italian inspiration.

On Sunday, January 31st, Simon Linn-Gerstein HC ’09 performed the Saint-Saens Cello Concerto #1 with the Salem Philharmonic. Simon was a student of Michal Schmidt who performed at Haverford this past weekend.

Associate Professor of Music Heidi Jacob was commissioned by the trio L'Ensemble to write music for the poems of acclaimed author Julia Alvarez. They were performed at a bi-college event in December.

On Monday, November 30th at 7:30 pm, the world premiere of Curt Cacioppo's "When the Orchard Dances Ceased" will be performed at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall in NYC by the American Composers Orchestra. This piece is an homage to the Navajo people of Canyon de Chelly on the destruction of their peach orchards by the U.S. Army in the 1800s. Associate Professor of Music Thomas Lloyd co-led a July concert tour to Brazil that featured two American choral groups performing with their Brazilian counterparts.

Professor of Music Curt Cacioppo's fantasy-choruses for piano, "This Little Light of Mine," which explores the tradition of American patriotic songs, was featured in a WRTI radio broadcast on July 12.

The Chamber Singers of Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges will be perform a special concert at Nassau Presbyterian Church, 61 Nassau St. in Princeton, NJ, on Sunday, April 26th at 5:00 pm. The program will include sacred masterworks from the Renaissance to the present day interwoven with African American spirituals.

Dr. Matthews '90 inaugurated the church's concert season with selections from Johann Sebastian Bach, Daniel Burton, Felix Mendelssohn, Jeanne Demessieux, George Akerley, and Charles-Marie Widor, among others, in a 90-minute event that showcased the organ's power and range.

Heidi Jacob is among the winners of this year's Pascal Gallois competition, sponsored by the American Composers Forum, Philadelphia Chapter. The recital featuring this work and others will take place on October 31st at 7:30 pm in Rock Hall Auditorium on the campus of Temple University.

The grant will support Freedman's digital forum for 16th-century music books.
