Dr. David Butler Cannata, in a lecture "Granados Reads Goya," will discuss aspects of the relationship between Goya and Granados in his piano and opera 'Goyescas'. The 'Intermezzo from the opera version of the work will be performed by the Haverford-Bryn Mawr College Orchestra on Friday, November 17th at 8:00 pm in Marshall Auditorium. Dr. Cannata is a Professor of Music History at Temple University.

The orchestra currently has over sixty members and has performed works such as, Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain, Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite, Dvorak's Cello Concerto, Beethoven's Seventh Symphony, Brahms's Ein Deutsches Requiem in a joint performance with the chorale, and Dvorak's New World Symphony, among others.

Daniele Ruggieri, flutist, is intensely active in performing both solo and chamber music. He recently made his Japanese debut accompanied by the Central Symphony Orchestra and is an active collaborator with the Ex Novo Ensemble of Venice of which he is a founding member. In addition to his performances Daniele teaches flute at the Conservatory of Rovigo.

Hoshanna! features recently-rediscovered, grand-scale Hebrew cantatas from eighteenth-century Italy and Holland composed in the styles of Handel and Haydn. This rare intersection of Jewish ceremony and Western art music reflects the freedom of The Enlightenment, a moment of peace and curiosity among cultures.

Featured music includes Hebrew cantatas & motets for soloists, chorus & orchestra performed by the Philadelphia Baroque Orchestra Tempesta di Mare with Sheryl Heather Cohen & Nell Snaidas, sopranos, David Newman, bass, and the Chamber Singers of Haverford & Bryn Mawr Colleges
