Choral Music

Ensemble singing has always been an important part of traditional campus life at Haverford and Bryn Mawr.  The bi-college community is home to an unusually large variety of singing groups embracing a wide range of musical styles.  The Chamber Singers and Chorale are directed by Professor Thomas Lloyd.  There are also a number of independent ensembles directed by students and members of the community.

Private Study Voice Lessons

Students can take private voice lessons for one-half graded credit per semester, either with one of our teachers who regularly teach on campus (mezzo soprano Suzanne DuPlantis, tenor Jon Garrison, and soprano Clara Rottsolk) or with any teacher in the greater Philadelphia area into whose studio you are accepted and whose credentials are approved by the music department. Click here for instructions on how to set up taking voice lessons for credit.

Independent Groups

One sign of the vitality of singing at Haverford and Bryn Mawr is that it is now claimed that we have more a cappella groups per capita than any other college or university in the US! The departmental choirs, the orchestra, and a capella groups share a concert together each Fall during Family Weekends at both colleges. Here is the current list:

These groups generally hold auditions at the beginning of the year with announcements posted around campus.

Greasepaint Productions is an extra-curricular bi-co musical theater company that puts on a full production with different student producers/directors each semester.
