I am a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at Haverford College. My field is algebraic combinatorics, and specific research areas which interest me include (dual) canonical bases of quantum groups, total nonnegativity, Schur nonnegativity, and Kazhdan-Lusztig theory. For more information, see my papers and presentations, CV, research plan, teaching statement, and summary of undergraduate research supervision.

I completed my Ph.D. in May, 2000 under the supervision of Richard Stanley in the MIT Department of Mathematics. I then worked as a VIGRE postdoctoral instructor in the University of Michigan Department of Mathematics and as a John Wesley Young instructor in the Dartmouth College Department of Mathematics. My academic family is listed in the Rota family tree, and other mathematicians whose interests are related to combinatorics appear in my combinatorics photo album.

This spring I am teaching Math 114-115 (Calculus II). The webpage for this course is is located on Swarthmore's Tri-College Blackboard. I am also supervising an undergraduate thesis on symmetric function inequalities and an undergraduate research group on monomial immanants. If you are shy about speaking up in my classes or research groups, try asking one of the following questions.

If you are wondering what I do when I'm not working on mathematics, please see my extracurricular activities.
