Math 205 -- Topics in Geometry
Math 205 surveys several different approaches to geometry. Our focus will be using
transformations in the complex plane to study non-Euclidean geometries.
We will also see how groups can be used to study symmetry in the plane and space.
This course is not a requirement for the math major or minor, but it
can be counted as a 200-level elective toward either the major or the minor.
Math 205 is typically offered in alternate years.
Prerequisites: Math 121 or equivalent.
Who should take this course?
Math majors or minors
Students considering a career in teaching mathematics at the secondary level
Topics covered:
Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries
Symmetry groups
Polyhedra
