Math 203 -- Statistical Methods and their Applications
Math 203 presents statistical methods used to analyze data in the natural
and social sciences. Applications and examples will form the heart
of the course.
Since no one-semester course can teach all of statistics, certain
advanced discipline-specific methods are covered in other courses,
such as Economics 304.
This course is not a requirement for the math major or minor, but it
can be counted as a 200-level elective toward either the major or the minor.
Prerequisites: Math 115 or Math 116, or advanced placement.
Who should take this course?
Math majors or minors
Students in the natural or social sciences interested in applying statistics to their disciplines
Topics covered:
Sample mean and variance
Probability
Binomial, Poisson, normal, and exponential distributions
Expected value and variance of a random variable
Confidence intervals
Hypothesis testing
Comparison of two samples
Regression
