Windows XP : Windows International keyboard (Win XP)
In order to use these codes you must activate the international keyboard.
To activating English US-International keyboard,
1. click on the Start button
2. click on Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options
3. click on Regional and Language Options
4. in the new window click on the Languages tab
5. click on the Details button
6. in the new window click on the Add button
7. default input language should be English
8. select United States-International for keyboard layout/IME from the drop-down
menu
9. click Apply and OK.

Windows XP: ALT codes
To type these accents, hold down the ALT key, then type the four digits listed here. When you release the ALT key, the character will appear. You must type the numbers with the numeric keypad, not with the row of numbers across the top of your keyboard.
