Macintosh Accent Codes

You must use the Option + key keystroke when typing accented characters on a Macintosh computer. For example, to type the letter á, hold down the Option key and the letter "e" at the same time, release the Option and "e" key, and type the letter "a".

International keyboard (Windows Vista)

In order to use the international keyboard, you need to set it as your default keyboard.

1 Open your Control Panel
2 If in Classic View, click Control Panel Home in upper-left corner
3 Under Clock, Language, and Region, click Change keyboards or other input methods
4 Click Change keyboards
5 Click Add
6 Scroll down to English (United States)
7 If you don't see a list including United States-international, click + to expand
8 Choose United States-International
9 Click OK in each dialog window.

International keyboard (Windows XP)

1. Open your Control Panel (via Start menu or My Computer)
2. Double-click Regional and Language Options
3. Click Languages
4. Click Details
5. Click Add
6. Pick English (United States - International)
7. Click OK in each dialog window

Acute é É ', Vowel ' = apostrophe key
Circumflex â Â SHIFT+^, Vowel  
Grave à À `, Vowel ` = left single quote
Tilde ñ Ñ SHIFT+~, Vowel Only works with n, N, o, O, a, A
Umlaut ë Ë ", Vowel " = quote key

Example : To type lower case ó - Type the apostrophe key ('), then "o." For capital Ó, type the apostrophe, then capital "O."

 
Consonants / Punctuation For these codes, you must make sure you use the Alt key on the right side of the keyboard.

ALT codes (Windows XP and Vista)

To type these accents, hold down the ALT key, then type the three or four digits listed here. When you release the ALT key, the character will appear. You must type the numbers with the numeric keypad, not with the row of numbers across the top of your keyboard.
