Summary: Link resolvers facilitate
seamless linking from citations to full text by means of an OpenURL. Use
of the SFX link resolver entails communicating with "Sources" to give
them our icon for menu options and our SFX Base URL; and activating "Targets,"
"Services," and "Objects" in the Haverford College instance on the SFX
KnowledgeBase to indicate to which journal issues we are entitled full
text access.
Activating Targets and Titles on SFX
ADMIN
By activating targets, services,
and objects in our instance of the SFX KnowledgeBase,
we let SFX know to which electronic journal issues we are entitled access.
All services for all targets remain active.
Leave all objects in getAbstr and getTOC
services inactive; the only objects which should be active are subscribed
titles in getFullTxt service.
Definitions:
- Source
- The site where the search for full text begins, usually
an index or abstract database.
- Target
- The provider or host for the full text.
- Object
- The final full text page or document, most often a
journal article.
- Portfolio
- List of objects.
- Log in to the Haverford College instance of the SFX KnowledgeBase.
- Under KB Manager, choose
Targets. Activate selected Target.
This may be a publisher's or aggregator's site or collection.
- Choose the Service button
of that target and make sure getFullTxt
service is active.
- Edit (E) getFullTxt service.
Check CrossRef. If no local changes were
made to the portfolio or target service, check Automatic
Update to make sure updates will be made to the target, service,
and objects as they are needed to reflect changes made by the provider
or publisher (for instance, URL or DOI changes). Local object
threshholds will not be overwritten. If we subscribe to all of the titles
listed in that target service, also check AutoActive.
This will allow SFX to automatically activate new titles for us as the
publisher announces them.
For SC & BMC
instances: check Proxy.
- Click on the P (for Portfolio)
in the getFullTxt service.
- Activate each subscribed journal. Some journals are listed
twice, once for each ISSN; activate both.
- Holdings: For most titles, the thresholds
already in the SFX knowledge base will be accurate, but if the years
and volumes to which we are entitled access differs, change the threshold
for that title by clicking e (for edit)
and Compose; enter the new beginning year.
Click Submit.
