Guides to the Archives

The Archives consist of a number of collections based on the type or arrangement of materials. "HCV" is a set of unique materials. "HCA" primarily contains materials published by the College and arranged by office of origination. "HCHC," which has no guide or index, contains all the materials published by the College since 1831 and arranged chronologically.

HCV guide and index including the following (and other) materials:

• Minutes of Board of Managers and Corporation, administration, faculty, students, alumni and staff
• Master's degree theses (including T. Wistar Brown theses, 1918-1927, Relief & Reconstruction, 1940s, Social & Technical Assistance theses, 1951-1955 and other Master’s theses not associated with specific programs)
• Deeds to college property
• Student publications in manuscript form
• Senior theses relating to the College

HCA guide and index including the following (and other) materials:

• Yearbooks and other student publications, including the student newspaper (1909-present)
• Course catalogs
• Presidential papers of John Coleman (restricted), Robert Stevens (restricted), Tom Kessinger (restricted) and others
• Histories of the College
• Treasurer's reports
• Artifacts, such as trophies and medals
• Audio-visual collection including football films recorded on 16mm and 8mm tape and oral histories of people connected to the College.

There is also a substantial collection of photographs (HCHC photos) relating to the College depicting individuals and groups, campus life, athletics, clubs, and buildings and grounds. The photographs are available to the researcher, and a guide to this collection is being created.

Another collection (Manuscript Coll. 910), including letters, journals, notebooks, and other manuscript material relating to college life, has been assembled. Information about this collection is available partially through the college’s online catalog and partially through a card catalog located in Special Collections.

A final group of materials is housed in a vertical file in Special Collections and contains such items as clippings and offprints relating to Haverford people, places or events published by outside sources.
