Famous
Cricketers - The Newhalls
The Newhalls were one of the famous families of Philadelphia and Haverford cricket. In the photo below, taken in 1901, there are eleven Newhalls dressed for cricket (they played against Baltimore) and two older members of the family. In the photo, Allerton (in the lower left) is clearly wearing his Haverford Team sweater. Dan, R.S. and Charlie Newhall were members of the "Philadelphia 12" who won the Halifax Tournament in 1872, a major international victory bringing considerable recognition to the state of cricket in the US. |
