Cricket Blazers
Cricket Blazers are colorful expressions of the team spirit and close
camaraderie that comes from playing together. Cricket blazers cover
the range from very stylish to boisterous expressions of bright
colors and outrageous design. The collection at the CC Morris Cricket
Library is the largest known containing American and Canadian club
blazers. Some are the only known remaining blazer from a particular
club. (Note: this page is under construction. Please visit again soon
to see more of our collection.)
The
Haverford College XI Blazer is shown here worn by Dr. Howard
Comfort. Awarded in a manner similar to an athletic letter, not all
players received a blazer. Unfortunately, no blazer has been awarded
since the early 70's. The cost of purchasing the custom fabric became
prohibitively expensive.
Merion Cricket Club Blazer is shown to the
right. This blazer was donated by B. Abbott Dickson. Merion Cricket
Club is located one block east of Haverford College and had a long
history of cricket play. Current members of Merion have revived play
and field a strong team. So, the proud Merion tradition continues.
The great lawn at Merion, currently used in
the spring for cricket and in the summer for tennis, is an
exceptional field, on a par with any cricket field in the world. It
is one of three fields used for play during the annual Philadelphia
International Cricket Tournament.
