Library Instruction

Librarians provide instruction in many areas of library and research skills, including the literature of specific disciplines, the organization and evaluation of information sources and the principles of the research process. Instruction ranges from the explanation and demonstration of specialized reference tools and electronic databases available on Trilogy or via Tripod, to classroom lectures for advanced-level or senior seminar students on the literature of their major field.

Librarians work with faculty to tailor their presentations and exercises to the specific course and to include examples that relate to the topics of individual students. Librarians always prepare a bibliography or web page of relevant reference sources to distribute to the class. (Examples of recent web pages)

Library Tours

During the first week of classes in the fall, librarians hold an open house. They explain library services, demonstrate Tripod, the Tri-College Library Catalog, and point out various collections and service areas.

Librarians are available to give tours to interested individuals, whether students, faculty, staff, or visitors. To arrange for a library tour, contact Margaret Schaus.
