When its local collections are insufficient, the Library will do its best to acquire anything needed by eligible campus borrowers without charge to them. Interlibrary services may involve Tri-College Borrowing, E-ZBorrow Direct Borrowing, or National Interlibrary Loan Service.

Tri-College Borrowing

Your Haverford ID card gives you borrowing privileges at Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore libraries for those materials that the libraries will circulate.

If you do not want to go to other campuses to get items, click on the "Request" button on the screen displaying the item you want, enter your name and barcode number from the back of your college ID, and follow the Tripod instructions. You may also ask staff to place the request for you.

For more information see our Tri-College Borrowing FAQ page.

E-ZBorrow Direct Borrowing

If the Tri-College Libraries do not own the book you need, you can simultaneously search a number of academic library catalogs in Pennsylvania through E-ZBorrow and then request many of the items directly from the owning libraries. The barcode on the back of your ID card is your "Patron ID" to access E-ZBorrow.

For books not available in E-ZBorrow, use the National Interlibrary Loan Service. Please note that journal articles are not available through E-ZBorrow.

NOTE: The E-ZBorrow catalog requires the use of javascript. Some browsers and operating systems, including IE 6.0 and Windows XP, will need to have the javascript plugin downloaded and installed. The plug-in can be downloaded for free from Java Support at Sun Microsystems. Also, please ensure that your browser has javascript enabled.

National Interlibrary Loan Services

If neither the Tri-College Libraries nor E-ZBorrow can provide the materials you need, then you may complete an ILL book request form or an ILL journal request form.

For more information see our National Interlibrary Loan Services FAQ page.

Interlibrary Loan Staff

Rob Haley, Interlibrary Loan Specialist
Phone: 610/896-1171
E-mail: rhaley@haverford.edu

Rob Haley is responsible for most interlibrary and document delivery services. Contact him if you have a question about how to place an ILL request, the status of an ILL request, a renewal, or overdue material.

The reference librarians in Magill, the Music Librarian, and the Science Librarian can assist you in identifying and locating materials of interest and advise you about the best way to obtain given items. Call these librarians if you have a question about locations for (or the existence of) a specific item, if you need help determining whether an item is available, or if you need a bibliographic citation in order to request an item.

In addition to Reference and ILL staff members, circulation staff assist with the borrowing of materials from Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore. Call the Circulation staff if you have a question about how to request an item from Bryn Mawr or Swarthmore, the status of a requested item, a renewal, and overdue materials.
