Glucocorticoid receptors (GCRs) are expressed in nearly all types of cells.  They exist on cellular membranes, and are the receptors that cortisol and glucocorticoids bind to.  When GCRs are bound to a ligand, they activate the transcription of genes that control human development, metabolism, and immune response.
