Glucocorticoids (GCs) can be defined as steroid hormones, released by the adrenal glands of the HPA axis, that are part of a negative-feedback mechanism that turns-down immune system function.  GCs exert their effects on a given cell by binding to the glucocorticoid receptors (GCRs) in the cellular membrane, and have various effects on the body.
