The Summer Science Institute at Haverford College is an intensive, five-week introduction to college-level science study for incoming first-year students. With the help of over fifteen Haverford professors, administrators, and staff members, HSSI students participate in seminar-like courses and lab modules in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Writing. This program gives students broad exposure to the richness of the study of science at Haverford, and an opportunity to hone their critical thinking skills in a supportive environment. The residential component of the program allows the participants to learn how to balance the academic and social components of their college education. HSSI seeks highly-motivated students who come from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the sciences, or who come from families with little or no college experience.
Bryn Mawr and Haverford College Summer Institute for K-12 Teachers bring together college faculty and precollege teachers, where they meet five days a week from 9 am to 4 pm at Bryn Mawr College or Haverford College. The gola is to share perspectives on how to enhance science and mathematics education throughout the curriculum and at all levels of the educational enterprise.
