Start thinking about the topic.
Consult with your instructor.
Meet some of your key-pals on-line.
Exchange e-mail with key-pals introducing yourself and asking them to be your informants.
Week 3 9/16-20
Choose a topic. Write a short essay on why you chose the topic, what you already know and what kind of resources you are planning to use.
Share this with your key-pals and ask them for more suggestions
Share your topic in class and make a note of suggestions your classmates make.
Week 4, Week 5 and Week 6 9/23-27 9/30-10/4 10/7-11
Do your research using various resources including the WWW.
Students can read any texts including English texts.
Progress report due in Week 5, possible problems need to be discussed with the instructor.
Send questions to newsgroups of one's choice where appropriate.
Week 7 10/14-18
Write a mid-term report with a question for a questionnaire for local residents and for a Web page .
Week 8 10/21-25
Create your Web page with a mid-term report with a question.
Week 9 10/28-11/1
Give a presentation of the mid-term report and get feedback from classmates.
Week 10 11/4-8
Conduct interview(s) and read Japanese text(s)
Week 11 11/11-15
Progress report due. Problems need to be discussed with the instructor.
Week 12 and Week 13 11/18-22 11/26,27
Work on the summary of the responses from language partners, local residents, key-pals, newsgroup readers and WWW readers.
Week 14 12/2-6
Creation of a final Web page,Give a presentation in class
Week 15 12/9,10
