The Dean of Multicultural Affairs has primary responsibility for the functions of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, which provides multicultural/diversity programming to the community and academic and social support to a variety of student constituencies, including a number of formally constituted affinity groups.
Dean of Multicultural Affairs
Haverford College, a highly selective coeducational liberal arts institution of 1200 students seeks candidates for the position of Dean of Multicultural Affairs/ Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs. This individual has primary responsibility for the functions of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, which provides multicultural/diversity programming to the community and academic and social support to a variety of student constituencies, including a number of formally constituted affinity groups. The Dean of Multicultural Affairs/ Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs will conduct workshops and seminars on topics related to Multicultural Affairs, assist in orientation and retention of students of diverse backgrounds and be proactive in exploring areas of interest to students from diverse backgrounds and of diverse lifestyles and beliefs.
Reporting to the Dean of the College, s/he also participates in the general advising function of the Dean’s Office, providing support to sophomores, juniors and seniors. H/she serves as a member of various campus committees and participates in the Dean-on-Call rotation. The five Deans, who also hold the title Associate Dean of the College, have distinctive portfolios but share general duties that include the interpretation of college academic and social regulations, crisis intervention, problem-solving policy development and implementation, and referral of students to appropriate college agencies and resources.
Candidates with Master’s degrees are encouraged to apply; a PhD is desirable but not required. Candidates from a variety of backgrounds will be considered, but five to seven years of experience in higher education, working directly with students and faculty, are expected. We are looking for a dynamic leader with the ability to facilitate dialogue and forge alliances across constituencies.
