2008 Spring Room Draw

INTRODUCTION

Please note these fast approaching and important deadlines:

ARROW ALL FINANCIAL AND/OR LIBRARY OBLIGATIONS MUST BE MET BY FRIDAY, MARCH 21ST @ 5:00PM to be eligible to participate in any part of the Room Draw process.
ARROW Requests for a Medical Exemption from Room Draw must be submitted by 5:00pm, Friday, March 21st.  Students who believe they need a medical exemption from participating in all or part of Room Draw and must be assigned their housing because they do not think they can obtain the housing needed during the Room Draw process, must request an exemption and supply current medical documentation from a physician by 5:00pm, Friday, March 21st.
ARROW Haverford students interested in living at Bryn Mawr College or Swarthmore College must contact the Housing Committee at hc-housing@haverford.edu by 5:00pm, Friday, March 21st.  There must be an even exchange of students between the Colleges for the exchange option to be offered and is based on the number of students who sign up in any given year.

In early March, the Spring Room Draw process begins with the application process for Special Interest Housing (Cadbury House, Ira de A. Reid House, La Casa Hispanica) and for Community Housing.  Each of these housing options has its own application procedures and selection process.  Applications for these Houses will be available the first week of March online at www.haverford.edu/housing/srd08/home.html or at the Housing Office and acceptances to these Houses are made by the end of March.

In April, the majority of housing is offered during a series of four Rounds held on four consecutive days.  This year the Rounds will be held Monday, April 7th - Thursday, April 10th.  Most students choose their housing by participating in these the Rounds, where house groups, floor groups, suites, apartments, doubles, and singles are offered.  Specific categories of rooms are offered, applied for and selected in each of the four Rounds.  This is a lottery based system based with rising seniors having the highest priority, followed by rising juniors, followed by rising sophomores.

Applications for each of the Rounds will be available outside of the Housing Office beginning on March 24th and on the day of the Round in the Dining Center (DC). Students sign up for the Round in which the housing they wish to apply for is offered, by filling out the appropriate Round application form and handing it in on the day of that Round to members of the Housing Committee who will be in the foyer of the DC from 11:00am - 2:00pm, each day of the Rounds, to accept the applications and sign students up for that night’s Round.  A student may sign up for more than one category in a given Round, but no student may sign up more than once within the same category.  The Housing Committee will assign lottery numbers each day of the Rounds from 5:00pm - 6:00pm in the Housing Office. The lottery numbers, which determine the order in which students choose housing during the Round, will be posted by 6:30pm online at www.haverford.edu/housing/srd08/home.html and in the DC foyer. The Draws on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights will start @10:30pm, prompt, in Sharpless Auditorium and on Thursday night the Draw will start @ 10:45pm, prompt.

Students who want to obtain housing for Fall 2008 but are unable to be present at the necessary Room Draw events due to being on a Study Abroad, Domestic Study Away, or Exchange program; being on Leave; having a sports or concert commitment; or other reason MUST APPOINT A PROXY to take their place.  Students must name their proxy, and the proxy must confirm their acceptance, by emailing the Housing Office at housing@haverford.edu by 5:00pm, Friday, April 4th.  In the event of a last minute problem, students may name a proxy up until 5:00pm the day before the Draw he/she wishes to enter.

At the end of the Room Draw process, students who have not obtained housing for the fall must fill out the Waiting List form and hand it in by the deadlineof Monday, May 5th.  Students who have participated in Room Draw, filled out and handed in the Waiting List form by the deadline are guaranteed housing in the fall.  Rooms invariably open up during the summer, and the College has been able to house all those requesting housing, who have met the above requirements and deadlines.
