TO BE GUARANTEED CAMPUS HOUSING FOR FALL 2008, students who, at the time of the Room Draw Rounds, have not already received their housing must participate in the Rounds.  Students who did not obtain housing during the Draw, but who did participate in one of the Rounds, are guaranteed housing in the Fall if they submit a Waiting List application by  5:00pm, Monday, May 5th.

PROXY INFORMATION

NAMING A PROXY:
A STUDENT MUST APPOINT A PROXY if they want campus housing in Fall 2008 but are unable to be present at any of the necessary ROOM DRAW EVENTS due to being on a Study Abroad, Domestic Study Away, or Exchange program; being on Leave; having a sports or concert commitment; or other reason. Your Proxy will stand in for you and so please tell your Proxy all of the possible housing options you wish to consider. Students who do not receive housing because their proxy fails to carry out their responsibilities will be placed on the Waiting List randomly in their class. Please note: Members of Housing Committee, student interns in the Housing Office and Housing Office staff  may not serve as proxies.

DEADLINE FOR NAMING A PROXY IS FRIDAY, APRIL 4th at 5:00pm

Please notify the Housing Office
by emailing housing@haverford.edu and title this email "PROXY" in the subject line and include the following information:

Your name, year
Your student ID#
Name and year of student you are naming as your Proxy.

If at the last minute something comes up, we will accept a Proxy nomination up until 5:00pm the day before the Draw the student wishes to enter.

ACTING AS A PROXY for another student:
A proxy is a student appointed to act on behalf of another student who, for any reason, cannot participate her/himself in the room change or procurement process. For example, a student currently studying in Spain who wants campus housing in the fall would need to appoint a proxy. As a proxy, in order to obtain a room for the student you are representing, you must follow all of the required Room Draw procedures, including verification of class status, signing up, and attending the necessary Rounds, on behalf of that student as if you were trying to obtain a room for yourself. If you sign the student up for any Round in the Draw and they have not been readmitted, that person, as well as everyone else signed up in a category with them, will be disqualified. You are the student's only representative, and no exceptions for missed deadlines will be made. If you are asked to be a proxy AND YOU ACCEPT, you need to:

DEADLINE FOR TO CONFIRM BEING A PROXY IS FRIDAY, APRIL 4th at 5:00pm

Please notify the Housing Office
by emailing housing@haverford.edu and title this email "PROXY CONFIRMATION" in the subject line and include the following information:

Your name, year
Your student ID#
Name and year of the student you have agreed to be a Proxy for.

If at the last minute something comes up, we will accept a Proxy nomination up until 5:00pm the day before the Draw the student wishes to enter.
  • Please remember it is important for you to find out what kinds of living situations the student will accept because s/he may not have the opportunity to switch later on.
  • Please read all of the guidelines to find out about different ways to obtain a room. You must follow all required procedures as though you are trying to obtain a room for yourself. This includes signing up for the Round(s) and attending The Draw(s).
  • Proxies, although formally designated, may not agree to the coed housing guidelines on behalf of another student unless that student has emailed the Housing Office (housing@haverford.edu) by March 28th that they are willing to accept the possibility of having to move in the above mentioned situation.

If a student asks you to act as her/his proxy and YOU DECLINE:

  • Please let both, the person and Marianne (Smitty) Smith, know this immediately as the person will need to make other arrangements.

THE MEAL PLAN
All upperclass students living in College housing must be on the full meal plan unless they live in the following meal-plan-exempt housing:  710 College Ave., Ira De A. Reid House or HCA, where they either may go off of the meal plan or take the partial meal plan.   Eligible students wishing other than full meal plan should, before the beginning of the Fall semester, send written notification to Barbara Wilson (x1251 or bwilson@haverford.edu, Students Account Coordinator, Business Office). Students may incur a financial penalty if they notify the Business Office after the semester begins.

SMOKE-FREE HOUSING AND THE SMOKING POLICY
Students’ Council has determined that the Housing Committee is permitted to designate smoke-free residential spaces.  This housing will be offered during the appropriate round, spaces in Comfort during Round III and spaces in HCA 31 during Rounds II & IV. There will not be a separate draw.  SMOKING OF ANY KIND WILL NOT BE PERMITTED IN SMOKE-FREE SPACES. Students who choose to live in designated smoke-free-residential spaces will be required to complete a Confirmation Form and sign a pledge to uphold the Honor Code by not smoking in these spaces.
The Smoking Policy can be found at http://www.haverford.edu/housing/smokingpolicy&smokefreehousing.htm. In spaces that are not designated as smoke-free, smokers are to reach an agreement with their neighbors about smoking as indicated in the policy.

COED HOUSING
All upperlcass housing may be coed.  Students choosing to live in coed housing agree to the coed housing guidelines for filling any openings that might arise.  No exceptions to the rules will be granted.  In a 3-person apartment, if one student leaves, and those remaining are different sexes and can not find a replacement to fill the third opening, and the College needs to fill that space and that student does not wish to live in coed housing, then one of the two remaining residents must move to other housing and the apartment will revert to single-sex status.

Proxies, although formally designated, may not agree to the coed housing guidelines on behalf of another student unless that student has emailed the Housing Committee (hc-housing@haverford.edu) by March 27th that they are willing to accept the possibility of having to move in the above mentioned situation.
