ROOM
KEYS
EARLY
ARRIVALS
Students who have been given permission to return early,
please click here for
information on key pick up. Students who have been given
special permission to return, please remember that you
must acknowledge receipt of your key by swiping your One
Card by the end of Non-Academic Registration on Sunday,
August 31st. Dorm security is a serious matter, and
Facilities Management must be able to confirm that the
department's records match the number of the key in your
possession. If you do not personally swipe your OneCard
for your room key at the Facilities Management Office
when you first arrive, you can do so during their regular
hours M-F, 8am - 4:00 pm or at Non-Academic Registration,
on either Wednesday, August 27th (if you have permisssion) or Sunday, August 31st. A brief word about parties: For obvious reasons
Customs Week, for all participants, is "dry."
If you are not formally involved in first-year activities,
please honor the "custom" of a dry week for
those who are.
SATURDAY,
AUGUST 30th
Students
may pick up their key between 9:00am - 6:00pm at the Facilities
Management Office.
After 6:00 pm and until midnight, students must first go to Safety
& Security to leave their name. Security will then
contact the Locksmith. Students on the next
hour exactly must be at Facilities Management
to meet the Locksmith to get their key. The
Locksmith will only be at Facilities Management once an
hour on the hour (exactly at 7:00pm, at 8:00pm, at 9:00pm, at 10pm, at 11:00pm, and at
midnight) and will only have keys for those students whose
name are on the list provided by Security.
Students must be waiting at Facilities Management on the
hour - the Locksmith will not wait.
IF YOU WILL BE ARRIVING AFTER MIDNIGHT, you must contact
the Housing Office no later than 4:30pm, Thursday, August
28th, to make the necessary arrangements. Students arriving
after midnight, who have made these prior arrangements
with the Housing Office, may pick up their key at the
Safety & Security Office. Students arriving after
midnight who have not contacted the Housing Office prior
to the 28th, will not be able to pick up their key nor
get into their room, will need to make other arrangements
for the night and will need to wait to pick up their key
during Non-Academic Registration on Sunday, August 31st.
SUNDAY,
AUGUST 31st - NON-ACADEMIC REGISTSRATION DAY
Students arriving from 8:30am - 3:00pm, may pick up their
room key at Non-Academic Registration. If you are unable to attend
Non-Academic Registration, you must notify and make arrangements

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1st, LABOR DAY, students may pick up their
key at the Safety & Security Office.
The
meal plan, for both HC and BMC, begins with the dinner
meal on Sunday, August 31st. The meal exchange
will go into effect with dinner on that day as well. Because
the food service will already be in operation accommodating
both the athletic and customs programs, you may purchase
your meals at the occasional meal rate through brunch
on Sunday. Residents of HCA, 710 College Avenue and Ira
De A. Reid House are permitted either to be off the board
plan or to take the partial board plan. If you are living
in one of these dorms and want one of these two options,
you should immediately notify Barbara Wilson, Student
Accounts Coordinator in the Business Office, at 610-896-1251
or at bwilson@haverford.edu.
If you do not contact Barbara Wilson, you will be on the
full meal plan and your student account will be charged
accordingly.
If
you are living off campus and want to be on either the
full or partial board plan, you should also notify Barbara
Wilson.

HOUSING
POLICIES
AIR
CONDITIONERS
Please remember that only those students who have a documented
medical need and permission from the Housing Office may
have an air conditioner. A current (new each year) letter
from your physician, specifically stating the medical
need for air conditioning, must be received by the Housing
Office before any air conditioner will be installed by
HC staff. This letter can be sent by mail or by FAX (610.896.4960).
Students given permission to use an air conditioner must
provide their own unit. Please click here
for further information about Haverford's air conditioner
policy and fees.
APPLIANCES
AND OTHER ITEMS
Satellite dishes, candles, use of halogen lamps and large
electrical appliances are prohibited in College housing.
Students may use small to medium-sized refrigerators
in the residence halls. Other low-wattage appliances such
as electric blankets and coffee makers are also allowed.
FURNISHINGS
The College provides each student with the standard bedroom
furnishings-bed, dresser, desk, desk chair, desk lamp
and small bookshelf. All windows have window shades. Each
student is expected to supply their own wastebasket, pillow,
towels, and bed linens (mattresses are extra-long 36"
x 80" x 6"). A flashlight is recommended in
the rare case of a power outage.
For students living in HCA, the College provides, in addition
to the above, the following: in the living room -- seating
for three or four, a coffee table and a lamp; in the kitchen:
a full-sized refrigerator with a freezer section, a stove,
a sink with a garbage disposal, and storage cabinets.
As in all residence halls, toilet paper is provided. Vacuum
cleaners are available for use through the HCA office
(x1779, building 15 basement, entrance in rear of building).
Students are expected to supply their own dishes, utensils,
pots and pans, etc.
MAILING
& SHIPPING
You may ship trunks and packages to yourself, but they
should arrive no earlier than August 22. Please note that
the College assumes no responsibility for damage to or
loss of any personal property.
PETS
Fur-bearing animals, such as cats, dogs, gerbils, hamsters,
mice and rabbits are not permitted in our housing at any
time. Any student who is found keeping a fur-bearing animal
in a Haverford residence hall or apartment may lose the
right to live in College housing and have to move out
within two days. The pet must be removed from the dorm
the day the animal is discovered or the owner will be
fined $100.00.
ROOM
DECORATIONS
Room/suite decorations are encouraged as a way of personalizing
a living space. Students should attach memo boards, posters,
and similar items to walls/doors using poster putty. Students
may not write, paint or otherwise mark on any surface
in any residence hall. Thumbtacks, nails and tape are
not permitted as they damage walls.
SMOKING
POLICY
The
College has adopted a smoking policy to protect individuals
who do not wish to be exposed to smoke of any kind. All
non-residential buildings have been designated "smoke-free
areas". No one may smoke inside any such building,
and smokers should take care not to cause others discomfort
when smoking too close to an entrance of such a building.
Students'
Council has determined that smoking should be permitted
in student housing so long as no other resident(s)
object. Smoking in College housing is a privilege,
not a right.
Please

Smoking Policy & Smoke-Free Housing for further
information and to read the full policy.
HAVERFORD
COLLEGE TELEPHONE SERVICE
Welcome
to Haverford College's Local and Long-Distance Telephone
Program, managed by STC Services® (www.stcservices.com).
REMINDER: Students are responsible for providing
their own telephone. Corded
or cordless phones may be used. Caller-ID is available
but if you choose to use that service you must provide
your own caller-ID device. Returning students
use the PIN assigned to them last year and must reactivate
their voice mailbox. Returning students who
do not have a PIN or who do not remember their PIN
should contact either STC or Telephone Services (Dottie
Penrose @ x1243). The College does not support
the use of answering machines. If you want to use
one rather than Voice Mail, you will need one that
answers on two rings as the College Voice Mail system
responds on 3 ½ rings.
Please link to http://www.haverford.edu/telephone/ for detailed information on telephone service at Haverford College.
THE
LINEN PROGRAM
Students
have a number of different choices and options when
it comes to providing their own linens. One such choice
is the Residence
Hall Linens Program that shares
a portion of the proceeds each year with Haverford's
Students' Council, but there are several other choices
for linens. The Residence
Hall Linens Programs website provides
information on the wide variety of services they offer
and how the program works. They can also be reached
via telephone at 1-800-957-4338,if you have questions.
A
REMINDER: Haverford College mattresses are EXTRA LONG
(36" x 80" x 6").
