Every year the Center for Peace and Global Citizenship, the John B. Hurford ’60 Center for Arts and Humanities and the Marian E. Koshland Integrated Science Center sponsor summer work, research and internships for almost 150 students.

Traditions

‘Fords enjoy myriad traditional events such as the Collection speaker series; pinwheel day; the annual weekend throwdown at the end of the year called Haverfest; and, most importantly, Fall and Spring Plenary.

The Departments of astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics and psychology are housed in the state-of-the-art Marian E. Koshland Integrated Natural Sciences Center (KINSC).

Discovering the Discovery and the Grandfather Who Saved Millions

Carl Sigmond ’13, through a grant from the Hurford Center for Arts and Humanities and the Koshland Integrated Natural Sciences Center, documented the life and legacy of his grandfather, Albert Schatz, who discovered streptomycin, the first antibiotic effective against tuberculosis.
