As the first intern hired by the American School of Bilbao, biology major Lindsay Reid ’13 will spend her post-graduate year teaching in Spain.

“[Haverford taught me]academic and humanitarian interests need not be mutually exclusive,” says AmeriCorps member Rebecca Schwartz ’13, “and that my academic background can, and should, serve my community and help to build connections among the people I encounter.”

The College has a concentration in Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies. These programs—which include fields such as Scientific Computing and Peace, Justice and Human Rights—give students the opportunity to pursue an area of study distinct from, but relevant to, their choice of major.

Upgraded facilities, more full-time coaches, state-of-the-art strength training and other enhancements have helped Haverford’s teams post impressive results in recent years. But the true measure of success for Athletics is reflected in how well the program allows students to excel in both sports and academics.

The Departments of astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics and psychology are housed in the state-of-the-art Marian E. Koshland Integrated Natural Sciences Center (KINSC).

Haverford students can choose from 31 majors, including Geology at Bryn Mawr College, thanks to our academic partnerships.

Haverford’s rigorous academic program focuses on individual growth, intellectual exploration and pushing the boundaries of each discipline. Most classes are taught seminar style with an emphasis on discussion and debate.

In the academic context, the Honor Code engenders an immediate sense of trust and colleagueship between students and faculty and creates a relaxed, personal atmosphere.

The Centennial Conference announced its academic honor roll for fall sports and 61 Haverford students made the list. Haverford had the most honorees among the 364 student-athletes recognized from the 11 Centennial schools.
