Department Prizes
- History Department Senior Thesis Prize [book prize]
- Summer Museum/Archives Internship Award [given to a rising
senior with an interest in cultural heritage management]
- S. P. Lippincott Prize in History [awarded for the best seminar-length
essay produced by a Haverford student -- not necessarily, but in practice
invariably a history major]
The Lippincott Prize Fund was founded in 1917 by a gift of $2,500 from
a beneficiary of the estate of Samuel Perry Lippincott '86. Samuel Perry
Lippincott, a member of the class of 1886 (who never graduated, staying
at Haverford for two years), died in 1915. He was the son of Joshua
Lippincott, a member of the class of 1860 (who likewise never graduated,
staying at Haverford for 2 years).
- Senior History Prize [based on grades and overall performance/promise
as a history major/graduate school candidate; used to "spread the
wealth" of departmental honors if that consideration is relevant]
- Michael Freeman Research Prize [given to a senior for the best
use of archival sources in the senior thesis]
- Michael Freeman History 361 Prize [given to a Junior for the
best History 361 paper]
