French Revolution

  • Prominent among the Department's modern European historical specialties, the Maclure Collection (also available on the commercially-produced microfilm) contains some 20,000 pamphlets published in France, by and large between 1788 and 1802. This collection documents French Revolutionary political and economic concerns, and political processes during the Revolution, in great depth.

Hungary

  • The American Friends Service Committee has material on Hungarian refugees in Austria following the 1956 Revolution.

Russia

  • The American Friends Service Committee has a sizable collection of papers documenting relief efforts in Russia from 1917 through the early 1920s. Work concentrated on feeding children and then later branched into medical relief.

Serbia

  • The American Friends Service Committee has a small collection of papers concerning relief efforts, primarily medical work, in Serbia following World War I. One of the volunteers whose papers are included in the collection is Drew Pearson who later became a prominent political journalist.

Spanish Civil War

  • The American Friends Service Committee has a sizable collection of papers documenting British and American relief efforts in Spain from 1936 through1939. Areas particularly well covered include fundraising and the efforts required to work with both the at the same time.
