The Church in Latin America and Mexican Independence
- More than 1400 books, pamphlets, and broadsides
in the Sydney Keil Collection document Spanish American Church history,
parish administration, and devotional literature. Mexico's struggle
for independence from Spain is another focus of the Keil Collection,
whose contents range in date from roughly 1650 to 1850.

Colonial Latin America
- The Rosenbach has two large collections of Latin American manuscript
materials that date from the colonial period. One is manuscripts from
the Viceroyalty of New Spain which includes material related to Hernan
Cortes and his family. The other collection has manuscripts from Peru
and other South American countries. Printed guides to both collections
are on order:

The Inquisition
- The Henry Charles Lea Library collects materials for the study of
the Inquisition in Europe generally, Spain particularly, and Spanish
America. The majority of documents date from the sixteenth and seventeenth
centuries and consist of records concerning specific cases, transcripts
of trials, and official documents discussing organization and procedure.

Religion in Central America
- Collection of over 150 religious broadsides from Guatemala and Mexico,
particularly Chiapas. Most date from the nineteenth century and deal
with political issues as well as ecclesiastical concerns.
