I first became interested in the issue of representation and history—that is, how human beings record, remember, interpret, understand and communicate about the past—in graduate school. This interest has sustained me through the publication of two books and several articles, interdisciplinary forays into literary theory and the study of visual culture, and curatorial experience contributing to a major exhibition combining film, photography, historical documents and material culture. It will also frame my research trajectory and teaching interests for the remainder of my career.
