Biographical Note
Alexander Kitroeff is an Associate Professor of history at Haverford College and he specializes on the study of identity in Modern Greece and its diaspora in a wide range of fields, from politics to sport.
Kitroeff was born in Athens and studied in Britain, where he received his D. Phil. from Oxford University in 1984. He is the recipient of several awards including an Onassis Foundation graduate studies scholarship, a senior fellowship from the Social Science Research Council, and an innovative teaching award from Haverford College. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the Hellenic Diaspora.
Kitroeff's publications include The Greeks in Egypt, 1919-1937 (London, 1989); Griegos en América, 1492-1992 (Madrid, 1992); Wrestling with the Ancients: Modern Greek Identity and the Olympics, (New York, 2004) and numerous articles chapters in collected volumes. Most recently, he served as principal historical consultant for the documentary "The Journey: the Greek Dream in America" (produced by Maria Iliou, 2007, 86 mins.)
