The Faculty Swimming Club

The Haverford Faculty Swimming Club invites members of the Haverford and Bryn Mawr College communities to join for the summer season of 2008. The pool is a delightful place to cool off during the hot summer months.

Unfortunately, as we are at our maximum membership limit, the Swimming Club will not be accepting any new non-campus memberships for the 2008 season. There is not a waiting list, but inquiries regarding the 2009 season can be directed to the club Membership Secretary (listed at the bottom of this page) beginning in March of next year.

Schedule:

The Pool will open on Saturday, May 24th. From May 24th through June 8th the pool will be open only on weekends (and Memorial Day). The lifeguard will post signs at the pool in case of late openings. The dates and hours that the pool will be open are:

May 24, 25, 26, & 31, and June 1, 7, & 8: Weekends 1 - 7 pm
June 9 – Aug. 29: Weekends
Weekdays
1 - 7 pm
12 - 1 and 2 - 7 pm
Labor Day Weekend (Aug. 30, 31, & Sept. 1)   1 - 7pm

Saturday evening swims:
(July 5, 12, 19, & 26; Aug. 2, & 9)

  7 - 9 pm

The pool is closed in the event of rain, electrical storm, or when the temperature falls below 70°F. If in doubt, call the pool at 610-649-9712. We are pleased that Rich Koshgerian will be continuing as Lifeguard.

Fees:

For current membership rates, please contact Douglas S. Davis (dsdavis@haverford.edu), the club Membership Secretary.

Lap Swim:

One lane will be available at all times for adults-only lap swimming.

Supervision of Children:

All children 12 years of age and younger must be supervised by a parent or caregiver at all times. Unless specifically listed on the family membership application, caregivers must check in with the lifeguard upon arrival at the pool.

Toys and Floatation Devices:

Toys and inflatables are allowed in the small (kiddie) pool. NO INFLATABLES allowed in large pool (The only exception would be bathing suits where floatation is sewn in to the suit.) Toys allowed in the large pool: soft balls (when pool is not to crowded), diving sticks, diving rings, and other diving toys that sink, not float.

Guest Policy During Regular Hours:

The guest fee is $2 per person per visit. Members must pay for their guests at the time they arrive and inform the lifeguard as to their guest’s swimming ability. All guests must be accompanied by their host member(s) at all times. Please remember that a guest is considered to be an individual outside the member household.

Parties:

Members may rent the pool outside of regular hours for $40 per hour plus $1 per person (up to $50). Please make arrangements directly with Rich (RDKOSH@aol.com).

Swimming Lessons:

Our Lifeguard will offer swimming classes Monday through Friday for two or three weeks toward the end of June. These dates are not set at this point, so please contact Rich (RDKOSH@aol.com) to determine the exact times and dates, and to sign up your child for lessons. Your child must be tall enough to stand in the shallow end of the pool with his/her head above water.

Location:

The pool can be seen near the lower left corner of the map at the following link, just above number 36:
http://www.haverford.edu/hcweb/campusmap2.htm

Parking:

Swim club members and their guests must follow the same rules as all others parking on campus. Please obey the posted signs indicating the status of parking spots/lots. The "South Parking Lot" (number 53 on the map at the link in the above section) is always open to visitor parking.

To Join:

Last year's members will receive their membership application in the mail in early April. New members should contact Douglas S. Davis (dsdavis@haverford.edu), the club Membership Secretary, in order to receive the membership materials. Bi-College members ONLY are permitted to pay their fees in three equal monthly installments, but we strongly encourage you to pay in full in order to reduce the Secretary’s bookkeeping tasks (and to prevent your forgetting to pay!). If you do require a monthly payment plan, the first payment is due with the application, and the others on July 1 and August 1. We do not send reminder statements.

Membership Cards:

Membership cards are not issued. Simply show up at the pool and let the lifeguard know your name. He/she will verify that you are on the membership roster.
