Founders Gets a Sustainable Makeover

Founders Great Hall
The ninety-six 60-watt incandescent light bulbs in Founders Great Hall’s eight large chandeliers were replaced in spring 2013 with 12-watt dimmable LED light bulbs. The change will ultimately save energy, money, and man-hours for Haverford. The LEDs will save 4,608 watts per hour, and will result in annual savings of approximately $1,100. The new LED bulbs have 25 times the lifespan of the incandescent bulbs, so they will need to be replaced much less frequently, allowing Facilities staff to spend their time on other campus projects. The new bulbs may last as long as eight years without being replaced, while the old ones needed to be replaced several times each year.
