Haverford's Annual Fund: Athletics
Men's Baseball
This spring, Haverford's Baseball team (25-19) qualified for its first NCAA tournament by winning the Centennial Conference tournament. A two-run double provided the Fords with their first lead of the game on May 18, but the Roadrunners of Ramapo College of New Jersey bounced back to steal a 6-4 win at the Mid-Atlantic Regional of the 2012 NCAA baseball championship, ending the Fords' story-book season.
Women's Softball
Softball pitcher Claire Fitzgerald '14 tossed her first collegiate no-hitter in a victory over Wilmington (Ohio) College. Brittany Stevenson '14 tossed the first perfect game in program history on April 5 in a non-conference 10-0 victory against Gwynedd-Mercy College. Facing the minimum 15 batters in the five-inning contest, Stevenson struck out six to secure her place in Haverford softball history.
Men's Tennis
In May, Men's Tennis was honored with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's National Team Sportsmanship Award. The monthly award goes to one men's and one women's team that has exemplified outstanding sportsmanship, character and ethical conduct in the true spirit of competition and collegiate tennis. Sportsmanship and fair play are considered especially important in college tennis due to the fact that players make their own line calls during a match.
