Foreign Study
Students majoring in German are encouraged to spend time in German
speaking countries in the course of their undergraduate studies.
Various possibilities are available: summer study; DAAD (German
Academic Exchange) scholarships for summer courses at German universities;
various junior year abroad programs; or a single semester of study
abroad. The German summer work program sponsored by Princeton
University accepts Bryn Mawr and Haverford students as guest participants.
Under this program, jobs that pay a living wage are arranged in
the German-speaking countries during the summer months. For Bryn
Mawr students, participation in the Bryn Mawr program in International
Economic Relations is possible. This program has a summer course
component in Germany.
Students of German are also encouraged to take advantage of the
many opportunities on both campuses for immersion programs in
German language and culture: residence in Haffner Hall foreign
language apartments at Bryn Mawr College; the German Film Series;
the German Lecture Series; the weekly STAMMTISCH, and more informal
conversational groups attended by faculty.
